Those words or expressions that make you cringe? The ones that make you want to run screaming when you see them on your screen, or worse someone uses them in front of you?

Mine is the verb "to blossom".

Always used about girls, of course. Who've "blossomed" into "young ladies". In other words, girls who have boobs and can now be on someone's wanna-fuck-her list?

She's blossomed, she nothing but a flower to be fplucked.

I HATE that expression. Despise it. Despise "young ladies" too, but blossom really makes me feel sick. Because it is just all kinds of wrong, has too many sexual connotations, and just... grosses me out.

Gah.

"She's only twelve, but she's already a woman" means she's menstruating. "She's only twelve, but she's already a lady" means she's appropriately repressed. Drives me *wild*. Only women are spunky, pert, or shrill... Language used to control the behavior of other people.
