Hike: Lake TwentyTwo
31 Jul 2011 21:48Lake TwentyTwo.
No, I don't know anything about lakes 1 through 21. Yes, the kids asked. Of course they asked. Or Lake TwentyThree either, for that matter.
Stats: about 5.5 miles RT, 1350ft elevation gain.
We went on this hike last week, on July 23. Today we're headed out to Eastern Washington for another hike that I'll write up in the next few days.
Dh and I did this hike years and years and years ago. As in, pre kids. For some reason, it isn't one we did with AC, though it was well within her capabilities by the time she was, oh, four or five (then we had Linnea and biked a lot and blah.) Anyhow, it was the first time the kids were on this trail, though we've done plenty of other Mountain Loop Highway trails.
This trail? For the most part, loads better than your average MLH trail. These trails are usually rocky and rooty, and nasty, this one was in much better shape.
We lucked out: found an actual parking spot at the actual trail head, rather than having to park by the side of the highway! Always a good start, really.
Dogs everywhere on the trail, some on leash, most not, but overall very well behaved. Not as much poop on the trail as I'd expected either: people actually did clean up after their mutts, or at least kicked the poop off the trail or something.
The trail wasn't bad, though there was a good elevation gain. There was a hot, rocky part towards the middle, but most of the before and after parts were great. It was packed, though. Lots of people. Come to think of it, that might be why we gave it a miss before. Because, yeah, lots of people. Many of them in totally inappropriate footwear. Like fuzzy slippers (no, I am not kidding. Like these. They were trashed.)
The lake itself was spectacular. There are boardwalks around a good part of it, so we walked on those, then on the trail around.

That's dh, Perry, and Linnea.

I love this photo!
