A comment I left elsewhere:


Normally I pay less than zero attention to the Oscars, but this year I have a friend who loves movies and follows 'em, and I'd seen Avatar... what had been bugging me for the past few days is how much the buzz seemed to be... pre-lowering the importances of any potential Bigelow win. First it was the whole "well, there never has been a woman who won, and some think it's about time" thing, and then it was the "instant runoff voting will be good for The Hurt Locker and bad for Avatar!". Both of those bothered me intensely, it was making her victory seem less important, even before she'd won. I haven't looked at coverage this morning, I hope that there is more good than bad.


Can I say that I'm thrilled for Bigelow, and pleased that Avatar did not win? Oh, I enjoyed Avatar, don't get me wrong... but it's easy fluff with a message that I happened to like. It won where it needed to win: the incredible technical prowess of that movie. (And dh's group got a "personal" thank you from Cameron, since it was their program that allowed much of it to be done. Heh)

Anyhow.

I still don't get the hoopla about the clothes, but almost everyone is in on that.... I checked out a slide show and Kristen Stewart looked by far the nicest. See, I said something nice about someone connected with Twilight!
