I've maintained my Weight Watchers -no fucking ww for me, LOL- even though I've been counting calories via loseit.

It wasn't just the history, it was the crutch. It was always there to go back to if things got too hard.

It was an expensive crutch, tbh, but one I really felt I needed. From time to time, I'd get on the boards and see what was going on, whatever.

The first nail in the coffin was their pushing app-app-app: there were fewer and fewer features on the website and then they stopped paper copies of weigh-ins and all that. For whatever reason, WW was one of the rare places where I really did prefer a paper record. I despised the app from day 1. I truly do not understand why anyone would use an app when a website is available. So that reconfiguration was difficult.

The second nail was the programs. I never did get over the punitive nature of some of the new point-programs, for carbs especially, and I was never able -and I tried multiple times- to get the program to work efficiently for me, allowing me to eat my carbs and not be hungry because they punished carbs over protein, if that makes sense. The type of program they push might be great for a while, but the punitive nature of any carb means it was not a program for living long term for me. Little by little, with each moral/punitive change the program became less flexible and thus less valuable for someone like me who will be dieting her whole life.

The loss of my leader and in-person meetings were the final nail. I never did manage to find a good place on Zoom, and I never felt the support there that I did in person. So I drifted away, gained a lot of weight of course during the pandemic, but the electronic format was not enough to get me back on track, unlike the energy of an in-person meeting and an empathetic leader (Charity was wonderful. I miss her.) I tried several meetings with several leaders, but nothing clicked.

It's funny. I'm an introvert. As a rule, I hate crowds, people, and being out there, so to speak, yet my meeting was mostly a safe place and I valued that.

Ah well. Bandaid ripped. I'll use the money saved to defray the cost of weight loss medication when I get my act together for that, probably after I get back from vacation. My health plan is pretty good, but there will be some cost, and hey, I wasn't using that membership, so why keep it, right?

Most of my dieting history is under the tag "weight watchers" and I'm going to keep it. They really helped me, over the years, and that will remain my small tribute to them.
