nwhikerSo. Got this text from my sister, and I'm a bit "huh?"
10 to 12 DAYS? I can't easily pick up and haul my ass to Bend for two weeks, one yeah, but more than that? Is going to start getting complicated. Especially since we have months of deferred stuff we need to do.
I mean... since early May, I've had my mom non-stop except for 2 3-day breaks. I know how stressful remodels can but... but they've taken three vacations during that time, four if you count our family vacation on the Oregon coast. I am not counting the 2 times they spent 3 days in Vancouver with my mom and aunt, since those were not vacations! I got out hiking once last summer.
So no, I can't commit to two weeks in March. The racing season will have started, which means that my cat-sitter (Perry) might not be available, and my MIL is iffy for more than a day or so. Dh will be starting to pick up at trains again, and on top of that, we have a lot of house projects that we didn't get to do last year (mostly because of being stressed enough that the planning part wasn't happening.)
Yeah, I get that we'll have to go to Bend to give my sister some respite time, and I had planned on it. But a week, not two weeks! Plus she's not going to Alaska now (my poor niece has Covid... again).
It'll be fine, we'll figure something out, but ugh. And to be clear: I called my sister and made sure it was ok for us to go to Europe in early Feb before I bought tix, so.
It looks like we can move into the new space next week, when I get back from Anchorage. As discussed, we were thinking of doing a quick beach getaway before we transition mom but wanted to put out an alternative. If you guys are feeling burnt out and you think that mom needs a change, we can get her end of next week but then wondering if you guys would be willing to come stay her for 10 to 12 days in Feb or March so that we can go somewhere on vacation. The remodel and life have been stressful and we feel that we need a break but trying to squeeze it in between Alaska and getting mom feels tight. Let me know your thoughts. If you are willing to come here, please suggest a window in Feb or March that might work for you guys.
