The witching hour

In my house, the witching hour is about 4:15. That's about when, on a rainy afternoon, and many of them are, it starts getting dark.

At that point, my mother starts with the dreaded "OK. I'll just go to bed then!" or some annoying variation thereof.

We then tell her no, it's not time for bed yet, it's only blah blah o'clock.

Repeat 15 minutes later. And 15 minutes after that. And--- This is the refrain, from that witching hour until actual bedtime.
