Well, fuck
16 Aug 2023 11:10I started to hear a lot of emergency response. OK, not unexpected, we're real close to the fire station so we do hear them any time they go out.
Then Anne-Chloe posted on Discord (Elizabeth is her co-worker): "Oh my. Elizabeth is listening to the scanner, apparently someone called in on Cottage lake, saying they think they saw someone face down in the water. Gonna be a busy lake..."
Me: "I just heard the fire engines."
Her, following up: "Sammamish is bringing a boat and Kenmore is sending swimmers. For how popular Cottage lake is, you'd think they'd have more resources nearby?"
Me: "Yah. They should have something availalbe at the local FD."
Lots of sirens etc. Not seeing anything on the lake right yet, but the park isn't quite visible to us.
Feeling a bit sick.
I fucking hope it was a false alarm. But UGH.
ETA. Not. All units are cleared, a paddle boarder apparently pulled someone out. Cold and stiff, says Anne-Chloe, who no doubt heard that on the scanner.
And this is why if my kids want to go out on a kayak, they need to take a parent or sibling along.
