Three things for Sunday
12 Jun 2022 18:341. Commencement is done. Thank goodness. I was dreading the whole thing, positive I was going to trip over my feet or some such. I didn't, and it was mostly ok, though I know I looked super-stupid on the photos. I am SO glad I was able to do this, not just today, but the whole program. I absolutely loved the challenge. I need to figure out what comes next. I think a job, but I'm askeered to sit down and write my resumé with that Mariana Trench type gap. I got to see my advisor for a bit, I adore her.
2. Perry is ensconced at the AirBnB, he made his connections ok and was able to rent the car. Phew. That's been stressing me out. In retrospect, as soon as we found out the coach had Covid, we should have re-tooled assume Perry would be alone and made plans accordingly. It wouldn't have changed the end result, it just might have made Friday and yesterday a bit less stressful.
3. I didn't really want to acknowledge it at the time, but Friday marked 17 years since my dad died. I miss him often. My sister sent around a bunch of texts with photos and I just kinda didn't look at them until driving back today. He would have been so proud of me. Anyhow.

Date: 13 Jun 2022 02:13 (UTC)Glad Perry got to his place. How did y'all arrange the rental car? When we went to Florida in Jan 2020, we used Costco for our rental car and iirc it was considerable savings. But I don't remember if they extended benefits to young adult members of the family.
And I can relate to missing your dad. My dad's birthday was today. He would have been 96, were it not for covid.

Rental car. We rented through Costco, the rate was ok and Enterprise added on an extra $25/day for the young driver. It's a lot, but there is no public transportation in Sarasota, so he'd have needed a $18-20 Lyft ride at least twice a day, and maybe four times one day (rowing morning and afternoon), getting from the airport was a pain etc. It is going to be stupid-expensive, but compared to ride shares, if the prices they estimate are correct, it will be just a bit more (and he can get to the grocery store etc). It's stuff like oh sure, he can get the cheap but from Tampa to Sarasota but getting from the airport to the bus station is a pain and expensive. Just... annoying. Oh. And since Perry is rated to drive our cars with full coverage, he didn't need the extra insurance stuff they try to pin on you. At least that's what we found. Dh scoured the fine print on both the rental contract and the insurance policy.
