nwhikerSo. We drove many miles through Eastern Washington this weekend. Many.
Sunday, we drove through a good part of the southeast part of the state: Spokane, down to Palouse Falls, then back via Clarkston, which is the WA side of the border, the other side is Lewiston Idao, through the Palouse area, to Pullman, then back to Spokane.
Yesterday, we drove home via highway 2, with a small detour to Grand Coulee Dam (we're both suckers for any civil engineering Big Project, and yes, we've visited before, but it's always worth seeing again), so through a band the center of the state, east all the way to the Puget Sound region.
Rural, very rural.
And OMG, red.
This country is over. The hatred and division is not sustainable. I can't count the number of signs and/or flags "Let's Go Brandon", "TRUMP WON", "Fuck Joe Biden", "Dementia Joe", and I forget how many ones against our D governor and just general hatred of Democrats.
The funny ones to me are always the homemade ones that whine about being taxed to pay for Seattle. AS IF.
The problem, at its core, is that while there are more of "us" than "them" for a variety of reasons (from Obama's self-described "shellacking" in 2010, and his unwillingness to fight for a SCOTUS pick (recess appointment, anything and everything should have been tried), RatFucker Sanders, Clinton and misogyny, a bare Senate majority in a 60 votes needed senate, to the structural issue that is representation in the Senate, all of it both magnified and focused by Fox "News"), they have a better grasp on power, and will likely retain it, and expand upon it in the years ahead.
The existence of the Senate and thus its enabling minority rule is the Fatal Flaw of the US Constitution. I don't know how this will all devolve, but it is devolving now.
This country is like a piece of glass with multiple scores graven in it, by many things, racism, minority rule, misogyny, greed, conservative thinking etc. Trump was the person to come and snap the glass at the scores. And now the Republicans, led by the SCOTUS, are about to push all the pieces of glass onto the floor and when they shatter, they will shatter into a million pieces.
