Go Viks!

Perry's boat placed 3rd! AND the novs were first, ACRA champions.

How exciting is all this?

In previous years they had send one varsity 8. This year, after covid, losing a lot of upperclassmen and having a kickass novice team (lots of pent-up demand!), they opted to send two fours (technically, as dh next to me points out, 4+ because they are coxxed). Instead of taking home no medals, they got two, LOL.

Here's what Perry said to our family chat this morning:

Also, just for a bit of context and history, this is the first time western men's rowing has ever made grand finals at ACRAs. The novices may be the first boat from western to bring home not only a medal, but a trophy from ACRAs.
The varsity four is a tight race. There is a seven seconds spread from the fastest time, and the slowest time of the six of us in the final. That's a realistic gap to be able to close. In other words it's all within reach, and it's all insane that this is what we can do after a year and a half of inactivity from our team.

For the record: they were rowing with orange oars, borrowed from a Virginia team, and with a boat borrowed from Atomic City Rowing (remember, they're in Oakridge TN) called Little Boy. Not quite sure how I feel about that name, LOL.

So freaking proud of him, and of the whole team. They are truly nice boys on top of everything else!

(Note: girls and women in boats = ladies. Men and boys in boats = boys)
