Ugh.

So people crow all the time about all the Californians moving to x or y state and bringing their blue ways to, say, Texas. If enough move, liberals say, we'll turn Texas blue!

LOL.

No, we gave that up in 2010 when all the hopey-changey people stayed home and didn't bother to vote and gave Obama a horrid House and Senate, but more importantly turned over a vast majority of state legislatures to the Republicans. In a census year. Which allowed them to gerrymander the shit out of their maps. Note that this time around, we have have won the presidency, but we took control of zero state legislatures we didn't already have and Republicans will control the vast majority of the "redistribution" this time again (Wikipedia on the 2020 redistricting cycle.)

There is a reason Wisconsin has a Dem gov and voted Dem in the presidential election but their state legislature is overwhelmingly red: about half the the vote gets Dems less than 40% of the seats.

Well. Here is what the end result of this has been/is going to be.

People from blue states are moving to red states: this ups their population. It looks like red states are going to gain seats in the House, as many as 6 or 7, this census. The redistricting for those states will be controlled by republicans, who will gerrymander 'em to hell and back to make more safe red seats. John Cornyn was bragging about it this morning.

We already have an unbalanced House, where Dems are a slim majority elected by a vast majority of people. The Senate is even worse. The idea that Dems moving to red states will help turn those states blue is a pipe dream that needs to die.

I need to make a tag for my political rambles that aren't 100% tied to current events. I mean, this one is. They aren't all.
