Insomnia is kicking my ass these days.
Usually I can get to sleep easy-peasy, but I wake up in the middle of the night 1am seems to be my witching hour- and am usually up until 4 or 5am.
But recently I haven't been able to fall asleep and but I still wake up and can't sleep any longer.
At this point, the best hours I get are when dh alarm goes off at 6:30 AM and I might sleep until 8:30.
My Fitbit shows an average of 5.5 or so hours a night.
I need to figure something out.
ETA The Next Morning. Last night I decided to try a trick I've used before to fall asleep. These past few months, I've been going over scenes of the novel I'm writing before sleep, seeing if they work in my head, so I'd not used this technique for a while: run through the alphabet with first names A is for Anne, B is for Beatrice, C is for... you get the idea. If not asleep by Z, repeat, with boy names. If I really focus on it and add an additional twist (names ending in A for girls, O for boys type stuff) I can squash down the anxiety drumroll enough to actually sleep. So, last night. Started with girls. Done. Boys. Done. Girls again, focus on French names A, Amélie, B, Bernadette, C, oh hai, Cosette, E, Eponine, let's continue with Les Misérables, Fantine, should have done Azelma for A... What the fuck was Cosette's real name? Eulalie? No, it was uglier than that... Eu-something... and what-- no, wait, let's skip that and get back to names, Fantine, Georgette, Héloïse, Euphrasie! That was it! Back to names... Where was I? God, I hated pretty much everything Hugo wrote, except maybe the poem he wrote when Léopoldine died.. Demain dès l'aube, à l'heure où blanchit la campagne... Maybe I should do poetry, that's better than names. Recites several poems to herself. Can't remember a line of one. Fret. Fret. Fret. Well, I'm awake now. Back to square one.
