Washington state is finally prioritizing vaccine supply for counties that are actually, you know, using the fucking vaccine.

Maybe I could have gotten a vaccine locally if they'd done that earlier.

I tried to register for our second doses in Seattle this week, but they hadn't updated the software to allow for that... welcome page said sure, go ahead and register, when you filled out all your info etc, and tried to actually book, it was like tee-hee, no, sorry, can't do that. I called 'em out on twitter and they fixed it within a few hours, but by then the appointments were pretty much all gone...as in, 6 left, I needed 5, no way where we getting them... tbc, I much prefer that the appointments are going, though I was hoping not to have to drive to the FEMA site in Yakima again.

In other covid news, looks like King County is going to our collective asses busted back to Phase 2 on Monday. Cases are up, and it's the B.1.1.7 variant so it's spreading quickly.

The people who whine the most about masks and closures are the same ones that refuse to get vaccinated.

Said people are also the ones that sneer that "Covid has a 99.998% survival rate, continue to be scared, I'm living mask and vaccine free, you can continue to cower in your home", not caring that many have to cower because they refuse to take any precautions.

We are never going to reach herd immunity. I find Michigan's Gov Whitmer's idea of tying re-opening to rates of vaccination in the state dangerous, compelling, and limiting.

Dangerous because it will be politically damaging to her, and the Democratic party, when they have to walk that because people are not getting vaccinated, and there is only so long she can truly keep things shut down.

Compelling because, well, it's a damn good idea. Make everyone responsible for what happens. If they want the economy open, pull up a sleeve and getting a fucking vaccine. It's mRNA, it is NOT going to change your DNA, it can't. Again, because it's the same people who are refusing both masks and vaccines.

Limiting, because I think there needs to be a parallel metric like hospitalizations. I know the two are correlated, and will probably be more and more causally linked, but we still don't truly know what rate of vaccination in the population is necessary for herd immunity, and we also don't have a handle on how many people have infection-driven immunity (because they were asymptomatic.)

People are falsifying the CDC vaccine record cards. Jesus, people, just get the damn shot. And despite what the Biden administration says, we do need a national database, and we do need vaccine "passports" probably in the form of something like a QR code, for admission onto any public transport and into any public building or venue, including airports. I'd personally prefer it if private businesses were to require them as well, but eh, if you can't get into the airport without, you probably won't be on the flight, LOL. And make sure the only exemptions are medical ones (*). I don't care if your stupid religion says you can't be vaccinated... ultimately, that makes it your choices. (*) Only given by state approved doctors, with appointments to get said exemption paid for by the state/feds. But not random NDs handing out exemptions left and right.

Again, Republicans who preach personal responsibility and push personal solutions to systemic problems are... backing off during the one time when a personal solution can, in fact, solve a systemic problem.

Ah well.

Vaccination appointments for us on Sunday in Yakima. Linnea had the opportunity to row in scrimmage that morning, she and her double partner beat all the other girl junior doubles in the club so were offered the opportunity to race against the club Masters. We shall see. Some of these women are Nationally Competitive, so it'll be interesting. Anyhow, that that means we are going to be a bit time crunched getting to Yakima. Perry will go pick up his girlfriend (she's coming with us, she and Perry got their first shots together in Yakima, so eh, it makes sense), we'll meet near the boathouse, maybe at dh's work, and leave the car there, and drive down in the SUV, masks on! I hope it all works out.

My mom was supposed to have her biopsy today, but she woke up with a fever. Sis took her to the ER this afternoon, when she got worse.

Three things:

-- they admitted her for the pneumonia they found. Of course, not in the hospital in Bend which is packed with Covid patients, but at the one in the town over.

-- the tumor has grown since it was last imaged. Not evidence -that they mentioned at this point- of anything else.

-- the biopsy has been scheduled for today, which means it did not happen, so we still don't have a firm grasp of what kind of cancer this might be, or what kind of mutations it may have.

Basically, we're in the same 'wait and get more data' as we were prior, except we now know it's growing fast and oh hai, pneumonia.

I'll call sis and BIL tomorrow to find out if they want me to come down tomorrow, or wait until early next week. If she's just going to be getting IV abx in the hospital over the weekend, it's probably best for me to wait so I can be at any potential doctor appointments. I'm pretty much packed, all laundry is done, so I can hop in the car and go whenever.

The reason early next week would work better is that I get my second vaccine dose on Sunday. I can get it on Saturday, but not tomorrow, sigh. The place I'm scheduled to get it is on one route down to Bend, so I can also leave directly after getting it. I have no idea what I'm babbling about.

Spring has been a sucky time for my family and lung cancers. My dad, my FIL, and now my mom.
