We let children go to school, and force them into active shooter drills because we are unwilling to do anything about the ammosexuals who worship the Second Amendment and refuse any limits on arming themselves.

Now violence has intruded in a spectacular fashion into the hall of Congress.

It won't change anything, of course.

But, still, there is something profoundly upsetting about this tweet from an MSNBC producer, Kyle Griffin:

Just on [profile] msnbc: During a briefing on security threats, House Democrats were reminded that the purchase of a bulletproof vest is a "reimbursable expense."

Somehow, that's an extra level of horror on top of all the other crap.

This is really a Note to Self.

I've used "current events" for events pertaining to the current news. I added a tag of "2020" back in 2019 to talk about the presidential election.

In a normal world, the 2020 tag would be retired, so to speak, when Joe and Kamala are inaugurated, but I get the strange feeling that the presidential election of 2020 is going to cast a long shadow. Still, that's the goal.

Well, she has at least one college acceptance to her name, and not from a waiting list (Perry...): Eastern Washington University.

It was a backup school, and it's too far for us to be happy sending her there (though we would if it was the best choice for her), but it's a real university and she got in.

Major sigh of relief, especially after last night's freakout. She's absolutely thrilled, btw, that some college, any college, accepted her! I hope there is more good news in store for her.

Part of the issue, btw, is that she is completely opposed to community college. We've never, btw, talked them down, but part of the issue is that as a kid with learning disabilities, she's often been consoled by people who say things like "well, you can always go to community college", which did not give her a good feeling about them.

That kid... absent the dyslexia, dyscalculia, executive function disorder, ADD... would truly have had the world at her feet. She's incredibly bright, personable, tenacious etc. Damn, I'm proud of her. Because all of that shines through, even with the school difficulties.
