We used to have at least four, most of the time five, bird feeders around our windows and deck. After the remodel, we'd been slow to get them back out, in part because of not wanting to replicate mistakes of the past (seeds all over the place).
Anyhow, we had some seed we needed to use, and put up a feeder. Yay, the birds came.
Only they hung out under the covered area and pooped all over the place. Linnea was not happy at a bird-poop-covered erg.
So we got a pole and hung the feeder in a slightly different area. I don't know yet if that will change the bird flight patterns enough to protect the erg and our outdoor furniture, but what's great is that this new system gives the cats a great vantage point for viewing kitty TV. Auri is at the window chittering.
The only problem is that I need a few more poles to hang up the other feeders, and they don't appear to be easily available. I got this one on amazon, which it's now backordered, and I can't find anything like it anywhere. Anyhow, we'll figure it out.
Our normal rotation of feeders: peanut, nyjer (that's a Scrabble word, now isn't it?), hummingbird, sunflower if we can find a safe place for it (where it doesn't make too much of a mess) and suet in the winter.
