So. Trump tests positive
2 Oct 2020 08:08And here we are with the White House announcing first that Hope Hicks and the "First Couple" have tested positive for Covid-19.
A few random, rambling thoughts.
1. Melania had to "test positive", not matter what the test said. That way it's the first couple and an advisor, rather than Trump and his (alleged) mistress.
2. Wow, this news sure knocked the Melania tapes off the top of the news.
3. Because Trump made a bargain with a major demon not some minion from Hell, and is luckier than any major political figure in recent history, I expect he'll have a mild case and will use it to crow about how anyone who gets a worse case is "weak" and how, really, this is a no-big-deal virus, which will endanger more people. He will also -no enemy of contradictions- talk about how vicious the virus is, and how strong and healthy he, Trump, was to vanquish it so completely.
4. Is Trump positive at all? With Hicks positive, they could have grabbed onto this to avoid the next debate at the very least. It's a townhall format, and it would be "too hard" to make sure "everyone" was safe. It would certainly get him out of at least that one, and would also allow the crowing about how mild the virus is and how strong Trump is, see 3 above.
5. And here is the worse case scenario. Trump is truly sick and dies or has to withdraw from the race. Pence nominates Ivanka for VP and wins the next election, on the sympathy vote and the stoopid who will think that Nepotism Barbie has the business skills of her dad without the baggage. We will lose to that ticket, I think. And the galling part is that will mean that the misogynistic Republicans will get to crow forevermore that they had the first female exec/vice exec.
There are just my first random thoughts on this whole mess...
I just hope that Biden remains negative. It's terrifying thinking how close he was to a virus spewing Trump on Tuesday night.
