All these years...

All these years and I still have not learned how to cut my MIL off on a phone call or irl. Dh does it, but I have not mastered the trick.

She called today, "I had a few questions, but I figured David would be working so I called you..."

And she talked at me for the next hour. The only relevant thing I got from the conversation is that my SIL volunteered to babysit a friend of my nephew's. Friend cannot "handle" a mask. Neither can mother. But SIL wanted to sleep so sent nephew and maskless friend over to MIL's. WTF? Also, the friend's mom, remember, not mask there either, came over to pick the kid up. My SIL is an idiot. If she wants to associate with "I'm too speecshul for masks" people, that's fine, but she should not force them on my MIL, who will never ever learn to tell SIL "No." Ugh. Anyhow.

One hour. I'm still feeling all twitchy. She's not a bad person, but she is perhaps one of the most boring people I have ever met, and goes into these long rants about her neighbors who are pretty much invariably awful... and ime, some of them are objectively awful.

MIL is upset because SIL is in full "I want EVERYTHING" mode from the estate, which is fine by dh but it drives MIL nuts, because of all the stuff that she'd previously given SIL (family stuff) that SIL went on to donate or pawn. I try to take deep breaths and think "Not my problem, not my problem" but it quickly becomes my problem.

Also, SIL upset because she doesn't feel "part" of all of this. WhatEVER. I can't have her over (even before this quarantine while waiting for Perry's results), and dh has been excellent about taking photos of everything and texting them so people can choose what they want. I'm sure SIL is annoyed that we're sending all this stuff to my MIL's, but MIL is willing to wash the linens say, and divvy them up before her and SIL, as well as go through the boxes and boxes of paperwork, letters, and photos that FIL and his mom kept.

All this is complicated by, well, everything. I'm tired.
