Why the fuck do the colleges Linnea is applying to want to know not just if I went to college, how far I went in college, but also WHAT colleges I went to? Mind you own fucking business dudes! It's enough to know I went.

Legacy admissions? That's what I've always assumed.

I suppose, but man, it just bothers me. They could just ask, and even then, legacy admissions are evil, so they really should not be.

And then they gripe because they can't find my French uni.

I just fail to see why they would care about where a parent went to school. The fact that a parent went to school is a factor, I get that, but I don't think that beyond that anything is necessary. Heck, I'd argue that asking if a parent has a graduate or professional degree doesn't matter. Graduated from college is what counts, not if someone graduated from Harvard Law or PoorlyRatedCollege. Do they hold it against you if both your parents went to Ivy League schools and you're applying to a state school? Or your parents are both physicians and you've decided to apply to a tiny liberal arts school that doesn't offer a science class beyond the 100 level?

Now, full disclosure I hate places that gather data because they can rather than because it will inform a decision, so that's my bias!

I agree that legacy admits are insidious and odious. I hadn't thought about it beyond that, but I can see that you are right that knowing more info probably doesn't really help inform their decision.
