Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak, Author of Splendid Nightmares, Dies at 83
The name "Max" grew in popularity over the years, really starting to gain momentum in the late 80s, when the people who were kids when Where the Wild Things Are were starting to name kids of their own. I really really think that was part of the trend in that name.
His grief at losing his long-term companion was so palpable, so understatedly expressed that it hurt to read about it. And he was never able to come out to his parents, which I also found heartbreaking. But oh the stories he told! I loved Wild Things and Pierre, but how I HATED Chicken Soup with Rice. And yet... years later, I can still recite most of it.
I'm sad for all of us.
