I didn't realize how profoundly stupid people were until covid.
I'd guessed how racist, how homophobic, and how misogynistic, yeah, that's pretty obvious by their actions.
But it took a public health crisis to really show that Trump voters/Republicans are, in fact, profoundly stupid, profoundly and proudly ignorant.
I mean, I can to a certain degree understand why some workers don't quite understand why their industry is dead and are ripe for the "I'll bring X industry back!" lies that Trump told. They don't understand the combination of, say, progress, and global trade, and automatization that killed their industry, and that's ok, because many people don't.
But.
"[M]asks don’t work if over used. " Huh?
"Imagine a disease so deadly you have to get tested 99.999% of the time to know you had" (sic). Huh again?
"Real virus can’t be contained. So guess what we do as humans we adapt!" Right. We adapt. No, we kill off a bunch of people, better treatment can't prevent all of the death. Jesus.
"Cases don't mean shit when the death count remains so low it might as well be a statistical anomaly." Here you have someone who thinks they know what they're talking about it, but really, they don't. The excess death reported by CDC would beg to differ, dude. Especially frightening is the excess death in the 25-44 year old cohort, which was unexpectedly high.
"Natural immunity is better than the vaccine!" Sure. Uh huh. If it doesn't kill you.
When someone commented on how death wasn't the only outcome, what was the percentage of people who would end up with long term consequences from Covid-19 some genius answered: "Easy: 0%. COVID is not a disease."
These are all from one thread responding to the governor of Washington who was talking about how our case numbers are going up.
I've tried to highlight the stupid, but the cruelty was present as well. The victim-blaming (they had pre-existing conditions, they were pretty much dead already, let them die), the contempt for the lives of seniors, and the really weird but since deleted one where the dude suggested that all "Africans" be returned to Africa "on the same ships they came in on, though more because their breeding like rats", since the numbers in African countries were so good. I particularly noted the "their" vs they're. :P
We are so fucked.
23 Oct. So totally fucked. Town in Idaho. Hospital 99% full, buying beds and adding roommates to try and extend capacity. Sending patients to Seattle. Regional health board voted to discontinue mask mandate, despite testimony from health professionals, after a member claimed that Covid was not read. He didn't know what was killing those people, but it's not coronavirus. JFC.
