One of the things having a Kindle has made easier has been air travel. I mean, one of my biggest fears had long been hating the book I'd brought for the trip and being stuck at 30000ft with Nothing To Read. So I'd always travel with three or four books. And often bought books at my destination. And that got HEAVY.

Well.

A few weeks ago I cleaned up my Kindle, getting rid of any books that it didn't look like I was going to ever read and deleting all the notices from amazon about books I'd borrowed with expired loans.

I downloaded two books from the library, one a YA SF, the other a book that showed up somewhere, either Good Reads or Twitter as a thriller set locally. I like books set locally, to borrowed it. The day before I left, iirc, I bought NK Jemison's Inheritance Trilogy. I figured I'd re-read my favourite of the books, the last one.

I tore through the SF book, it was fast read, and set onto the next book, called... _The View from Rainshadow Bay_ and in about three minutes I knew I'd been hoodwinked. Not a thriller. A romance. And worse. A Goddie romance to boot. UGH. I can read a romance, but the sappy God stuff is a major NO for me. I can read books about faith and with people of faith, even when they talk about their faith, but the combo of Christian and romance just kills me.

But I had the wonderful Inheritance Trilogy just bought, and.... I found out it hadn't downloaded. Nooooooooooooo....

And remember that cleaned out Kindle? UGGGGGGGGGH!

The icky romance it was.

Here's the review I left on Good Reads, along with a 1 star:

This saccharine sweet slime is what happens when someone wants to write a romance with goddie misogyny and pretends to write a thriller to get people to read it. I think I borrowed it because it was on a list of books set in my area, there was no warning about the sappy sloppy maudlin Christian goo.

Why did I read it, you ask? Because I was stuck at 30000 ft and my other book hadn't downloaded.

Feh. At least it was a library loan and I didn't pay for it. Shudder.

I really wish they'd warn about Christian based books like that.

At the Phoenix airport I tried to get my Kindle wifi to work so I could finish downloading the Inheritance Trilogy, but I could not, and it wasn't connecting to the free airport WiFi.

So another flight stuck at... well, I don't think we got up to 30 000 ft, but lots of feet, and nothing good to read. I finished about 95% of the book on those two flights, and it was as dreadful as I feared from the first few pages.

I was able to download my trilogy at FIL's, phew! And when I got home, I re-downloaded most of the books I had on the Kindle that I'd already read and just didn't want to keep on there. Better re-read _Anne of Green Gables_ or _His Majesty's Dragon_ than not have anything to read it all.
