Ugh. I'll do it, but this does NOT make me happy.

One of my fellow grad students is going to be house-sitting for her aunt and uncle in Everett while their house is on the market.

So she's asked to commute with me when I go up to the lab.

Sigh.

Just... sigh.

I really really REALLY don't wanna. I cherish that time, listening to my audiobooks and just being by myself with no demands on my time.

I will, of course. Fellow grad student. Environmentally the better thing to do.

I suspect this will last through the remainder of my degree, and it's hard to not to be totally depressed about it.

Especially because I have several audiobooks that I want to listen to before I no longer have the hours and hours of this commute. I love fantasy, but when a recording is 49 hours -yes, 49- even played at 1.2 speed, it's hard to get through in three weeks. With this gal in the gar during 2/3 of my commute, I won't be able to finish it. It's also an extra 30-45 minutes out of my way to get to her aunt and uncle's place.

So yes, everyone, feel free to conclude that I am a selfish bitch.

One year when i was in college, I rode back to Houston with the other guy from Roswell who went to school there (he's the reason I was at Rice in the first place - he'd put my name on a "who should we recruit from your high school?" form). I'm an introvert and not good at small talk and it was a very VERY quiet car ride. (We're talking a 17 hour drive, people!!) I found out later from someone - at Rice or in Roswell, I forget - that he found it odd, and I was embarrassed to learn that. But in retrospect, I wonder why he thought it should be up to me to drive the conversation? Or maybe he tried his best and I just didn't cooperate and I'm blocking that part???

So anyway, I can relate to not wanting to share your commute. I can relate to audiobooks being a good companion. And you're definitely not a bitch.

I'm going to have to. I FINALLY got an audiobook I'd been waiting for and total listening time is life 50 hours. I have three weeks. I cannot give up that time.

Still, I'm not too thrilled.
