Priorities, folks!

Washington state is in pretty pathetic financial shape. Tuition at state universities is out of control. We can barely cover basic needs in health and human services, and indeed those are getting cut and trimmed. We nickle-and-dime people with fees to attempt to make back a few pennies, and school funding is limit.

What are we going to do?

Pay for YET ANOTHER palace for overpaid sport bazillionaires!

City, county could announce arena agreement Wednesday

We voted down the fucking Mariner's stadium and Gary-current-Ambassador-to-China--former-Secretary-of-Commerce-and-election-overturner Locke decided that we didn't really mean to vote against our poor beloved Mariner's, ignored the election results, and went ahead with the stadium anyhow. Then the Seahawks wanted their stadium and Paul Allen paid for a special STATE election to raise taxes on people in Seattle/King County. Hello? No brainer there! Would you like Seattle and King County to pay for a stadium they don't want to keep a team you like in the area, Mister person from three counties away? Well, of course. So two tax payer boondoggles.

And we're still paying off the Kingdome, the one we blew up to make way for the new palace.

Feh.

So what now? We do it all again and pay for a new sports team. Fuck that. I'm so sick of this.

Oh. And the best part is the buttheads who want the arena keep on saying it "won't cost the taxpayers anything". Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Wow - that is pathetic. Even without people voting against it, I find it pathetic when taxpayers fund stadiums that are almost exclusive domain of private enterprises.

I know.

I've noticed that the people who scream that we mustn't put any limits on what private enterprise can do (forcing them to comply with environmental and employment laws, for example) are the ones who are the first in line to say that public-private partnerships are Teh Awesome.
