Shoving this under a cut because there will be photos.

Yesterday, we went on a drive. First I will say. The weather turned out spectacular. We left the house in nasty rain, and I don't know what it was like for the rest of the day here, but up north in the Skagit Valley? The weather was great, for November. No rain. No wind. And even -gasp!- a little bit of sunlight!

The plan was to drive Chuckanut Drive from the south, and stop to walk down to the beach at Larrabee State Park. I'd entertained the thought of going to Teddy Bear Cove but the trail can be slippery, so we opted for the short-short-short hike option.

We saw -no photos, alas- trumpeter swans, a whole flock of them, and several flocks of snow geese on the way there. Beautiful. I will also mention the blue herons, the hawks, the bald eagles, and I'll not forget the cute wrens and bushtits.

At Larrabee State Park, Linnea saw the stage and headed straight for it. Alas, no photo or video of the short performance she gave (Alas? I mean, luckily for you all!)

And then seconds after we got there, we saw a train. Made dh's day, that did!

Short train down to the beach. Almost the first thing I spot:

Pretty, eh? I'd have loved to toss it back in to the salt water, since it was being bathed in nasty fresh runoff and was pretty exposed, but that no-interfere, don't touch bit took over and we just looked at it.

We attempted to get some photos of all three kids, because of that holiday photo that needs to be sent out! I have a few candidates, that I won't be sharing here.

Oh what the heck.

Yes, Linnea went wading (as did I). Cold. No. Really. COLD.

And here is Linnea being a rock babe.

After we drove over to the boat launch to have lunch, we wanted to eat in the car because, hey, temps in the 30s! and there is no good view from where we were. Another photo from just a little bit further north. The point to the right is the one in the previous photo.

We decided not to drive all the way up to Bellingham, and just to head south again. A few shots from the drive back down on Chuckanut.

Notice the blue heron in flight!

After, we went to LaConnor, where I found a cool ceramic octopus and didn't find what I was looking for (a snow goose ornament), then home.

The full series of photos can be seen at my Flickr site.

And that was our day. It was nice. The kids had a good time and were pleasant to be around, which is never a given. Heh.
