I'll have to ask them again in a year, but judging by the excited about which they told me of these things yesterday, orlearned/talked about them this is what my two older children will remember of January 20th 2009:

1. Roberts/Obama flubbing the oath(*). AC was totally on this, as were the teacher and her classmates. It created discussion of the Constitution, its Amendments etc. (*)They don't care who flubbed (Roberts) or not (Obama), they just thought it was exciting that it was flubbed, from what I can tell. But then again, they are six graders. And judging from the video I saw, Michelle Obama almost cracked up.

2. The "lady with the beautiful hat" that sang "a song". When shown a picture of Aretha Franklin, they both started hollering "That's her! She's so cool!"

3. John Williams' Air and Simple Gifts, and YoYo Ma playing. And finding out that John Williams had composed the Star Wars music? Icing on the cake.

Linnea made an apple pie yesterday. That's all she remembers. However, a few reactions: Michelle Obama is "pretty", she doesn't "like" Joe Biden, and a very funny comment about the White House that had me laughing and that I can't remember!.

On Monday, Zane was quizzing Toby on what was going to happen. Toby could not remember the name of the president-to-be, but knew that Joe Biden was going to be "the President's helper." [He knows Obama now, and recognizes him in photos.]
