Sampler

The concept of the embroidery sampler: all wide variety of stiches and techniques, all in one project. I did one -one!- once -once!- way back when. Never again, but I do remember loving the chain stitch and hating the 'point de tige', which, I just had to look it up, it actually a directly translated stem stitch, that I could never get even. Anyhow.

What I need is the equivalent for knitting and I can't find it. A project with various stiches, increases, decreases, some color changes and patterns, and how to read a pattern. I keep on hoping and looking for so far I haven't found a good jumping in point to more complicated stuff.

I'll figure it out and if I do, I'll write up a tutorial for The One Project To Tech A Bunch of Knitting Stuff, LOL.

i would love to have that tutorial! I learned how to do basic knitting, but never fully understood increases & decreases, and am totally lost on anything else. And gauge - don't get that at all, so fear trying anything more complicated than a washcloth. One of my neighbors once said I should try a hat instead of a scarf, but since I'm mystified by gauge I worry the size would be all wrong. Reading a pattern? Might as well be Greek.

Do you have a quality yarn shop (not Michael's and def not Hobby Lobby) anywhere nearby? They might be able to point you in the right direction.

I do! The one everyone talks about closed a few years ago, but apparently a few others have popped up. I'll plan on setting up some lessons after I get back from vacay. Thank you, I always hesitate to do stuff like that, so it never really gets on my radar, ya know?
