Three things for Sunday
17 Oct 2021 12:121. I know I mentioned making applesauce earlier and that brings me to some musings on cinnamon. I am not a great cinnamon fan. I mean, cinnamon buns are great, but I'd use a different spice balance if my family didn't object. I don't add cinnamon to many of the cookie recipes that request it, I tone it down when I make gingerbread or spice cookies or pain d'épices. I prefer spice blends that rely more on allspice, cardamom, mace and, if appropriate, ginger to ones that rely on cinnamon as their base. But when I make applesauce, I'd been tossing a cinnamon stick in and it creates a flavor that it wonderful, rich and spicy and so much more mellow and rounded than adding cinnamon would give. I find this a bit weird.
2. Poor Nader. He was lulled into a sense of security by the cats not being overly hostile and he went up to say hello to Auri who was sitting above him on the counter. She freaked the eff out, hissed, and took aim for his nose. He's ok, but he's looking quite sad right now.
3. There needs to be a website that you can query to find random stuff that you want to buy locally and can't locate. I mean, I need a piece of carpet, for example, and I have no idea where I'd find it locally. A carpet place? Home Depot? Same for when I was looking for food-grade lye. We called about 10 places and ended up ordering on amazon. Anyhow.
