Finally, the heat wave has broken.

It hit 110F/43.3C here yesterday on my thermometer, the max we've ever seen. It was... brutal. It's still hot but it's not stupid-hot.

From Cliff Mass's weather blog, this frightening tidbit:

Seattle now has a higher record maximum temperature than Miami, Atlanta, Washington DC, or Chicago. Portland's record high exceeded that of Houston, Austin, or San Diego.

Seattle hit 108F yesterday.

It was in the high 60s this morning, we cooled almost 50 degrees overnight.

Ugh.

But man, sat outside this morning on the deck with my tea, a light breeze, and temps that won't kill you. Such a difference.

I heard a news story the other day which mentioned that Portland's 115F record was 50 degrees higher than normal. 50 degrees!!! My jaw dropped. That's the part most of the rest of the country (including me) probably didn't realize.

50 is probably a bit of an exaggeration, to be honest. Their average high is a bit higher than ours, and we were "only" 40 higher than usual (normal around here for June -usually called June-u-ary- is 72F, so yeah) and Portland is hotter than here, so I'm guessing 40 delta on highs, but probably 50+ on lows to highest.

It was blissfully cool this morning.
