Seriously, though I'm documenting these.
That said, it's real, not just me catastrophizing. I don't know where my weather app gets its data, but the data I'm seeing elsewhere confirms that.
Cliff Mass, who can be a bit of a crank, but is still good on weather and to a certain extent climate (he's not a fan of attributing to climate what is actually weather, which makes sense, but sometimes he seems to lowball the impact of climate change on weather) and he's got a blog post about this: An Historical Heat Wave with Record-Breaking Temperatures over the Northwest

Date: 24 Jun 2021 21:45 (UTC)When I landed in Houston nearly 2 weeks ago, my weather app said "96F, feels like 106." Then while I was at my sister's house in Missouri, it was the hottest days of the year (over 100). Got home to a cool spell though - either yesterday or the day before it was 42F when I woke up...

Date: 25 Jun 2021 05:50 (UTC)I'm sure Houston was hot and soupy. That's the other thing... dew point is going to rise, which means it's going to be humid, and we're really not used to hot AND humid.

Go down to where it says "This is so nuts I can't believe it." and read from there.
Basically a tropical disturbance poked at the jet stream and created a huge high pressure ridge over the region.
