Regionals 2021
21 May 2021 20:08It was different than previous years. No where near as many people, no where near as many 8s, but the energy of Regionals was intact, in some way, and that was good.
Parents weren't supposed to stay... but a few did. Not many. From what I can tell, mostly parents of Seniors, who missed last year, and won't get another chance.
Time trials for Linnea and her doubles partner S were the first event of the day. They didn't do well, they tend to do better in sprints with others to go up against, vs time trials which are a skill. But eh, they weren't last so that was good.
We headed back to the hotel after the time trials, figuring they weren't in the top 8, so done, right? Well, no, not done as we found out when we went back after showers and checking out. There were finals for everyone, not just the top 8.
See this?

Linnea (to the left, barely visible) and her doubles partner crossing the finish line first in their final!
So she finishes her high school rowing career with a gold medal, not bad, eh? LOL. They worked hard. Their time was actually decent the second time compared to others, they just do better when they have people to measure themselves against.
And Perry was down there are well, with his coach, and the kids they coach. Their team did pretty well, even the kids who didn't medal placed better than expected.
All in all a damn good day.
