Mighty sick of this
26 Apr 2021 20:31Well, it looks like Perry is getting caught in the same BS that AC did, about competitive majors.
He didn't get into the biochem major, probably won't get into biology.
He's at the point, having taken a lot of classes over the past year, that he's out of classes to take that are not "major locked".
So I have no idea what he's going to do. He can reapply in the Fall, but that means his Fall quarter is going to be a bunch of classes he doesn't need, just to pass the time, and if he doesn't get it, what then?
His French minor is almost finished.
At this point, I'm thinking his best bet is going to be to go for a French major, at just graduate with a strong BA in French, with lots of organic chemistry.
The comment as to why he was turned down was along the lines that they didn't feel he'd articulated why he wanted to get a degree in biochem and how it would help him in the future. What part of "medical school" did they not understand?
AC got completely screwed over by UW on this one too. They went to competitive the quarter before she was due to apply. It's not just grades, by the way, it's a whole porfolio, with extra-curriculars, a test, essays (two major ones, the 'future career' one, and the diversity one, which is hard for a white male, lol.)

no subject
Date: 28 Apr 2021 20:31 (UTC)But I digress. What I started this comment for, is to say that Toby had to write something along the lines of a "diversity essay" for a college app (Wisconsin maybe?), and he wrote about his missing finger digit, because he couldn't think of anything else that was unique.
