Three things for Sunday
19 Sep 2022 22:54I have no idea when this post will get finished, but I'm putting it up as a place holder, LOL. Other posts that should show up when I hit the jackpot of brain awake, internet access, and time, will speak about Airbnbs and their randomness, laundry in the UK as a traveler, and the Queen and the Constitution of the United States.
That said, my three things for this week listed below and I will fill in details.
1. The coos and alas, the sheep.
There are sheep all over Scotland. Many of them roaming. They are all -I swear- white and fluffy archetypical sheep. Alas, they won't let you pet them. I am so freaking vexed. I wanted to pet a sheep. Which is all I wanted to do. Linnea wanted to bring one home.
As for the Highland cows, which apparently everyone calls 'hairy coos' which is pretty much what they are. Think Texas Longhorns. With bangs. We saw a few in passing at a place we could not stop, and were concerned we'd not see any again. We did. In the middle of the road. On a bridge. They would not move. We thus could not. Follow 20 minutes of trying to get them to move. Remember. Long horns. Not about to get out of the car. Horn didn't do much. Eventually, they decided -on their own- to move. If they hadn't.... We'd probably still be there.

See what I mean about those horns?
2. North Atlantic and North Sea
Because we do shit like this, one of the highlights of the trip was driving what is knowns as the North Coast 500. See map from North Coast 500 below, LOL.

It was so very cool. I talked about the start of it in this post. The next day, we went on to John O'Groats from where we could see the Orkney Islands (not enough time to go, alas!) and then down to Inverness.
John O'Groats is the place where the North Atlantic meets the North Sea. It was so weird. You can actually see where it happens and it almost looks like the North Sea is higher. Anyhow, this photo is a crappy one and doesn't do it justice, but still, pretty cool.

3. Kids left, WAH!
So yeah, the kids left a week ago. Last Saturday, we went back to the Falkirk Wheel, as we wanted to do, and rode their silly boat up. It was both silly and very cool, because, well, locks are always good and big civil engineering projects make most of us happy and the other two (Perry and Linnea) and pretty much up for anything on the water. But we got them to the airport on Sunday and they had a pretty uneventful flight home while we headed down to Gretna Green and towards Wales. Perry and Linnea are back at uni, and all I'm getting is wails of complaints about everything, which is normal.
Finally wrote this up. A week later, LOL.
