Last night Perry articulated very well the dangers of a cat people getting or borrowing a dog.

Think about COL -cat on lap-, which essentially means that our overlord or overlady has deigned to lie down on us, keeping us in place until such time as they decide to leave. We are merely there to provide a cushion, some warmth, and maybe some petting if desired by the overcat, and only for as long as the overcat desires.

COL is usually a self-solving crisis. Yeah, so maybe the toast is burning and that bathtub overflowing, but eventually the overcat will decide they're done, and move on to the next item on their agenda, such as sharpening their claws on the couch, puking on the carpet, or shedding on the clean laundry that was clearly left out for the to shed onto.

Contrast this with dogs. They will come lay on you and... they have no other agenda. This is not a self-solving crisis, because they will stay there, trapping your down, until you decide you need to move to rescue a drowning child. You are the one who will need to cut out this session.

For dog people who are used to dominating their animals, this probably gets done without too much thought. They're sad at disturbing their dog, but eh, the pup will be back, because they adore you.

Cat people, confronted with a cuddly dog? Will sit there waiting for the dog to move.
