This is fascinating
23 Mar 2021 21:12Fascinating story about bringing back a lost art, along with the plant that allowed it to be!
The ancient fabric that no one knows how to make.
Heartbreaking that the art was lost to colonialism, and it'll be interesting to follow the progress they make on bringing it back.
When they mean lost, they don't just mean the techniques but also the cotton plant used to make this high thread count muslin. It went extinct. Yay for DNA sequencing of some old dried leaves that allowed researchers to find a cousin to it, and I suspect selective breeding to try and get the particular kind of cotton growing again in the 21st century.
