I am so fucking SICK of the media saying things like "the Dems need to nuke the filibuster NOW if they want to retain any credibility!"

That's nice, bub. Considering we have two "Democrats" in our midst who have said they won't vote to nuke the filibuster, how is that supposed to work? There isn't much Schumer et al can do as long as Manchin and that stupid Sinema continue to claim that they won't vote to remove it.

These two senators have veto power. Like McConnell, they are drunk on power, and they know they can force their agenda -or lack thereof- on the Democrats. Poor went the minimum wage. Sinema, clearly an idiot, said it wasn't appropriate to pass it through reconciliation -majority vote- all the while saying that she wouldn't vote to remove the filibuster, so it would need 60 votes it will never get to pass.

If these two don't shape up, Biden's agenda is effectively dead.

Because Democrats, unlike Republicans, don't vote lockstep. They think, sometimes wrongly, for themselves. It means the Democratic party will probably never become a Q-Party, or engage in a cult of personality like the QOP has for Trump (though Obama might have come close in 2008. That was scary at times), but it also means that when things are close, people like Sinema and Manchin can hold everything hostage.

Reporters implying that "all" we have to do it is "kill the filibuster" ignore the fact that we don't have the votes for that, and then blame Dem leadership for not being up to the task. As long as the the Dem side of the aisle is 50 individuals, their inability or unwillingness to vote lockstep will haunt us.

Happy Valentines Day! With 11.5 inches of snow that my defective Norwegian Forrest Cats refused to play in, instead getting out of the snow as soon as they could. What's the point of having fur between your toes that makes you slide all over the place on hardwood floors if you don't use it to float on snow, I ask you?

There is a mom on twitter who posted the other day for prayers for her 12 yo daughter who'd been in a bike accident and had sustained a TBI. This is not someone I know, but someone whose tweets have popped up occasionally in my timeline because she's followed by people I follow.

Today, she posted the bad news, that her daughter is not expected to wake up.

My heart is breaking for them.

It's been obvious for the past few days that this was going to be the outcome. I mean, I can read between the lines, ya know? And the tweet came today. And I keep on going back to twitter and checking again, hoping for a different, better update. I don't like this update, it's a bad update.

So dreadfully sad.

Molly was here.
