Percale

I love (100% cotton) percale. It's crisp and it makes wonderful sounds when you take it from washer to dryer. I find it the most comfortable kind of sheet to sleep on.

I used sateen sheets for years, because Costco sheets were such good quality and such a great value that spending three times as much to get the equivalent quality in percale seemed ridiculous. Alas, Costco, a few years back, seems to have decided to keep the price point the same on their sheets, but sell crap-ass nasty low quality stuff, rather than offering the old sheets as a higher price.

So I looked around for good percale sheets, which are surprisingly hard to find. I'd bought a duvet cover at The Company Store a few years back, but when I bought sheets, they weren't as nice.

Then, thanks Wirecutter I found Riley sheets and they're better.

My upgrade path, for when I win the lottery (which I don't play...) is Lyric from Lyric from Peacock Alley. Since I don't use a top sheet (just wash the duvet cover), and use standard size pillowcases, it would only cost $490 for the fitted sheets and pillowcases! Less if I can wait for a sale! Dh rolled his eyes at me! :)

The point of this post? No idea. I was just washing my sheets and happily listening to the crish-crish of the percale.

Monday: pulled turkey on rolls (freezer from Thanksgiving!)


Tuesday: gnocchi with tomato sauce and mushrooms


Wednesday: chicken breast saté, rice, grilled onions


Thursday: jerk pork, puréed yams.


Friday: polenta with garlicky spinach, fried egg.


Saturday: homemade pizza.


Sunday: roasted spatchcocked chicken, roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts.



I have no idea what the kids will eat when dh and I eat polenta, but dh and I like potenta, so polenta will be eaten, at least once in a while.

Perry wants to make curry from scratch, as in not using curry paste from Uwajimaya, so if he gets off his butt and does the research etc, that may sub one of these meals, I don't know.
