The goal was 10 boxes and we did it.
Went through three big boxes of linens. Most of those went to MIL who wants them or wants to deal with them because she wants to make sure that anything of value ($ or sentimental) does not go to SIL without information (SIL periodically donates all her stuff, when she wants A Fresh Start. Right now, she and her son each have bowl and a spoon. If my MIL is over there for any reason, she has to bring her own dishes. Plus SIL's dogs pee and poop all over the house and it never gets cleaned up, so MIL wants to try to "store" anything of value.) Such fun, all of this. NOT!
We got some glass etc gone through and either slated for attempted selling (if MIL or SIL want to) or donating, or to either of them.
We went through the remaining nine boxes of books, I found the two books I wanted, and took a few others. We tried to select a few to keep, but the bulk is being donated (or if I can get Perry to do it, taken to Half Price Books). Kept out four of Bob's tween books, one for each grandkid -hey, they may not want them, but I figured they could at least each have a book in which FIL has written his full name out in fountain pen!-, kept a few signed books. Kept a 1920 Charleston phone directory for fun, and a 1868 Banker's Almanack because weird. Plus a few books relevant to family history. For the books I kept for reasons ,I put post-its on the covers about the reason why we'd pulled them. Fingers crossed that everyone is happy. Once Perry gets home and hauls the books out to the car, we'll clean up, consolidate a few boxes and see where we're at.
One of the boxes left is dh's grandma's good stemware. My FIL had asked me if I wanted it and I'd told him yes, so I'm taking it now without remorse!
Still a lot of stuff to deal with, many boxes, but this weekend felt like real progress so I'm glad of that.
