The whole thing where people tear their hair out and wail that we can't do school online because what about poor kids who don't have access to the internet?!

100% bullshit.

That is a fixable problem, and relatively easily at that.

This is not like, say "poor kids have asthma because of terrible pollution in their environment". This is a problem that has multiple causes, multiple pieces involved, and is thus difficult to solve.

Internet for everyone? This should not be a problem, and I don't understand the wringing of hands. I do know that there are rural areas where this is not quite as easy to fix. But in those counties, the level of Covid-19 infection is such that restarting school is probably doable with serious precautions.

My district has provided all kids who needed them with tablets and/or cell phone hot spots. I'm sure it's not been cheap.

This might not be as easy at the local level, but at the state level, providing all kids who need it with internet access is not an impossible task. It requires money, and especially the will to provide a public service for free.

And I suspect that is the problem, the meanness of people who want to ensure that nobody gets anything for free.
