Ugh. What a double cluster-eff of a morning.
Perry is attempting to register for fall. He's waitlisted on every single effing class he needs to take, and his schedule is at this point less than optimal. When not coming in with 80 "Running Start" or AP credits, you really can't get all the classes you need until you don't have any time to actually take them and still get a four year degree. AC had that problem at UW: she came with enough AP credits to be a sophomore, but ended up taking the almost five years. She missed, pretty much, the quarter with the sinus-infection gone bad, and she took a few quarters with barely enough credits because she was helping out the fuckwit get his degree (driving him to and from school, because otherwise he wouldn't get up), but aside from that, she was taking a heavy load... she just could not get into the classes she needed to get into, so took filler classes. Perry is going to have to do the same. We'll see. He was aiming for Cell and Molecular Biology major and a French minor, but if he can't sort his schedule, it looks like he'll have time for a French major and maybe a chem minor. Ugh.
Linnea. She's has Invisilign braces, trying to get the final stuff done to completely (or as much as possible) fix the underbite without surgery. This is a new ortho to us (our beloved one retired unexpectedly), and all this happened right on top of Covid, so communication wasn't at its best. Anyhow, I thought that the appointment they were having me make with Linnea's ped dentist today was to put something in to make the braces align better. I couldn't go with Linnea to the last appointment, and the office person called me when I was in the car, unable to take notes etc, so it's very possible I missed something. Anyhow, the instructions the ortho sent the dentist were to pretty much put crowns/do a composite buildup on the teeth as the sides of Linnea's front teeth. Those teeth are small and I got to see the ortho's email to the dentist this morning: the words "esthetic improvement". They made those spaces intentionally with the braces so this build up could be done. It's also possible that dh and I didn't understand the implications of that part of the treatment plan when we started. We only had the one initial consult with this ortho because of Covid. Anyhow, I cancelled that in short order, and the ped dentist totally agreed with me. She didn't say anything until I started asking WTF was going on (laughing gas? WAT?) Linnea had also not undersood this, she likes her teeth as they are and has no desire to fix them beyond fixing the underbite.
Long story short, it's probably that dh and I are idiots who didn't quite understand what was going on, but because of covid, we didn't get the follow up appointment, or a written treatment plan.
Ooops, spaces made that now have to be fixed. I'm irked, to be honest.
I don't make decisions for my kids' bodies that do not have to be made for health reasons. No ear piercings, no circumcision, no braces that were not necessary to correct bites. AC had the option of one more round of braces to fix some esthetic issues, she opted not to. I'll add that she hasn't had her ears pierced either, and at this point, doesn't want to.
With that in mind, no way in hell I was going to let them drill onto Linnea's perfectly healthy, if small, incisors to make them bigger.
UGH. Now I have to deal with calling the ortho to set up some kind of consult to see where we go from here. I hope Linnea doesn't get fired!
