We finally decided we'd go to Wales this summer, with, I hope, a stopover in Iceland. Because Iceland.

The plan was to go during the last two weeks of August, our usual vacation time. It's sometimes iffy since band camp and rowing start early, but it's still the time we prefer to go if we can. Not 100% sure but it was looking like Perry might be interested in going those weeks. I no longer hope AC will come, she's apparently planning on going to Octoberfest with Dipshit. Note that AC a) is not amused by drunked people b) hates beer and c) has never EVER expressed any desire to set foot in Germany, and certainly had said she never wanted to go back after a less than stellar 48 hours spent there. Still. Maybe Perry, right, and I'd planned on Linnea, of course.

Well, it looks like Linnea has an invite from a friend to go down to Southern CA with J and her family. All expenses paid (we'll actually pay for her, but the offer is that they'd pick up the tab, which tells me they really want an extra kid on the trip!), and the parents were on the Scotland/Ireland trip Linnea did a few years back through school, so they've travelled with her before.

Pros: it does sound like a lot of stuff that she'd enjoy doing.

Cons: it's a long trip, 2 full weeks. It will probably impact band camp. They're driving (this is the one that always scares me). It interferes with our planned trip.

Side rant: I guess the school calendar is determined once the bargaining agreement with the teacher's union is complete, but it's mid-Feb, which is when people need to be making plans for summer, and dudes, you need to get me those dates, damn it.

I do not want to be out of the country while she is travelling with friends. It just seems like a bad idea.

I don't want to miss her first day of school. I will cry. It's the last first day of school for any of my kids. Yeah, college, but it's not the same thing. WAH! <-- anticipatory grief.

So. Blah. If I push too far into September, it interferes with pre-season rowing. Normally I'd shrug at that, but Perry is going to be running for team officer for the rowing team, so rowing has a high prio.

Ugh. Too many missing pieces.

And yes, we can just go, dh and me... but I was really hoping to have one kid or another along! So much more fun.
