Today would have been my dad's 85th birthday.
I will never stop being mad at cigarette companies, and at the governments that failed, and continue to fail, to protect people who end up addicted before they can truly understand what is happening, or, as was the case for my dad, before the warnings about smoking and cancer were much talked about.
I miss him so much, in some many ways. He wasn't a perfect father, far from me, but he loved us all and did his best, to the limits of some pretty serious mental health issues, he was probably bipolar.
One thing I'll always love about my dad: he treated every single person he met with the same respect and courtesy. He was raised in a very privileged environment and he came out of it with what I see now as an unfailing belief in human dignity.
