Linnea's rowing day
7 Jul 2020 11:39She just got back from her first day at the summer program. They're rowing in singles and it's pretty risk free.
OMG, the joy of that child when I picked her up! Her hands were full of rips (calluses that ripped off), she'd scratched the back of her hands (long nails and sculling don't mix), and she was beaming!
The part that really touched her: the coach told her that they'd picked out a Hudson lightweight boat for her to row, and she told me it almost made her cry, because she felt seen, that they knew her, and knew what boat would work best for her. ETA I've had issues with that club/program since she started there. It isn't always as nurturing an environment as one would like for young people, but it's both gotten better with better coaches, and Linnea has found her spot. And things like this, when the coach bothers to tell an athlete that a given decision was made with her in mind rather than randomly, really do mean something.
Anyhow, single, lake, she didn't flip and it's all good!
Gov Inslee is giving a press conf this afternoon. I really hope he isn't going to shut us down again.
