She was a friend of a friend, and a biologist. She helped the friend and me when we were struggling with characterizing a scientist in a piece of fanfic we wrote.
When I was hesitating about going back to school, she encouraged me, and offered her help. I will forever be grateful for that.
She suggested some reading, and I dove into Neil Shubin's _Your Inner Fish_ and it remains one of my favourite books.
I was lucky enough to meet her several times and I know her friends are bereft.
The world was better for having her in it, and my life is better because of our paths crossing.
