A few random bits.

-- Found out why Linnea's mac and cheese is even worse than I'd remembered the package stuff to be: she didn't know that she needed to let the water boil before putting the pasta in. Since she regularly makes ramen for lunch, I don't think any of us thought to question her on that.

-- Amazon effing delivered a package at 3:17AM. Why yes, it did wake me up. Did I go back to sleep? No, I did not. To add insult to injury: the package is for one of my neighbours. I'm tired.

-- For some reason this came to mind as I was trying to fall back asleep. When she was a tot, AC didn't want to be a "chenchen". I have no idea either. If she was scolded, she'd wail "I'm not a chenchen!" or "I don't want to be a chenchen". The only thing we could figure out is that maybe we were using Pay Attention! or Fait Attention! with her, and that's how it got translated/understood.

-- We have the heat on today. I got tired of being cold. Right now, on 1 July, I am wearing fleece sweats, a tee shirt, a fleece pullover, fuzzy socks, and a wool hat. I am wrapped in a light down blanket, and I have a fleece shawl over my shoulders. It was 67F in the house earlier, but what with not getting enough sleep, and being on a diet, I'm not dealing with the cold well. Of course, it's going to get hot all of a sudden next week probably and I'm going to be complaining about that. I have a very narrow band of comfortable!

-- My leg still has a nasty swollen spot, but it seems to be getting better, so I'm continuing to monitor and ignore.

-- I'm continuing to be horrified at the Covid-19 numbers. It's so hard to fathom. All the stay at home shit we did for months was squandered because the feds didn't follow up with enough testing or a coherent plan. Right now, I'm reading an excellent book on pandemics, a bit dated, but still good: Laurie Garrett's The Coming Plague. It's very long, but not too dense, and quite informative. A lot of it so far is stuff I've read in bits and pieces, but a lot of it is new. Anyhow, one of the things this brings home: how far CDC has fallen. :( But 50k+ new cases today, a record. This is not a good trend.

-- Dh claimed that the reason he brought up all zillion boxes of FIL's book (beyond the education and psychology ones SIL asked for) was for me. I'd asked him to grab ONE book. ONE. I told which shelf it was on. Apparently when he told me that he'd found several others by the same author and I said, sure, I'll take 'em (Barbara Tuchman) he decided it was too difficult to triage there and instead brought up I think 12 boxes of books. Sorry, no, it's not my fault. I get that he was stressed, but ugh. And of course, going through the boxes of books, I found stuff that should not be donated, sigh, so I can't just find the one book I truly wanted and ditch the others unopened.
