They want to called the State of Washington Douglass Commonwealth. That is OMG effing NOT an excellent idea.
It's already a PITA to search and end up with results that are confusing because Washington State and that other Washington. Having two states with WA in their name? Just effing no. I'm sure the Carolinas, the Virginias, and the Dakotas have some sympathy, but it's very hard to limit searches to stuff in WA sate when one of the is the freaking nation's capital.
Ideally, we'd ditch Washington and call the state Cascadia, which are a defining feature of the state. Plus we'd get the name of a dude who kept slaves, ya know? There are, of course, plenty of Native American tribes in the area, so I wonder if they'd have any suggestions.
Anyhow. I'd be more than happy to ditch the old white dude.
