Well, AC is all graduated, with a degree in geobiology (don't ask. Degree is from the Dept of Earth and Space Sciences, and I think she has a minor in microbiology).

The ceremony, such as it was, went well, despite some early UW tech problems. Overall they did a decent job of trying to convey a sense of ceremony, despite the unusual circumstances.

Things started at 9:30AM with departmental grad, and then at noon with the university. We were on a zoom call for much of the time with friends and family.

Up next for her: registering for the MCAT prep class. Dh and I said we'd pay for a significant part of that. My desperate hope: she gets into med school and dipshit decides not to follow her or whatever. Anyhow. Fingers crossed that she gets in some place faaaaaaar away. I'll miss her, but maybe he'll stay here. :P

But she's graduated, yay.

[personal profile] siamese1 , I hope things went well for A this morning and his achievements were recognized! And congrats to you too!

It went very well! He graduated summa cum laude as well as receiving an Outstanding Scholar award (only given to one student in each major). I'll send you a pic of him in cap and gown.

One more hurdle cleared - congratulations! I hope the MCAT prep goes well. One of our parkrun friends just finished 3rd year at UM and she has been in hard core MCAT study mode - taking it next weekend. And one of my nieces is planning to take it soon. She was aiming at PA school last I heard but may have changed by now. She has been working in an ER - first as a scribe but more recently as a tech. No clue what either of those jobs really entails though!

The kid next door graduated from high school, the small / alternative one. They did some kind of drive through graduation; I guess it was also broadcast various ways but I did not watch. I should ask one of the neighbors to describe how it went.

update to my own response: apparently my niece would like to go to med school, but will settle for PA school if med school doesn't work out.
