Proud of my spouse.
11 Jun 2020 08:34He is so incredibly good at helping Linnea learn. So patient and able to present things in as many ways necessary to help her understand.
Linnea gets things. But not in the way or on the time frame that many other kids.
So dh does a lot of work with her. I mean, long ago, I taught her to read in French over the course of a summer, and it was exhausting. He's done most of the STEM stuff since. A few times, I've had to explain something to him, so he could explain it to her.
He's helped her with computer science pretty consistently, because so many kids in AP Computer Science come in already fluent in one language or another, and she was not. She's worked really hard, and is doing reasonably well. The teacher, alas, is one of those "exam in class, no open notes, no retakes" teachers, so her final grade last semester was a D: she was fine on all homework assignments, but terrible at the exams. That's a consistent problem with her. But this semester, with online learning, and dh helping, she's doing a lot better, being graded on her actual work... and she's doing the work. I hear how dh helps her. He never gives answers, he makes her find them, but helps her untangle her thought process.
Linnea is seriously considering computer science as a future career, btw. If she does she's going to have to stop calling her programs Chad or Eric or NastyRat or whatever pops into her head. :)
But here's the thing: dh signed up for TEALS yesterday. He's been thinking about it for a bit, but he finally did it. Considering he does 10 hour days now, I'm not sure when he's going to cram that in, but hey, he's going to do it!
