nwhikerI do not fully blame George W Bush for the deaths on September 11th. Yes, he could have done better, maybe, but ultimately, those deaths are not on his account.
The deaths from Hurricane Katrina, OTOH, are. They were the result of stupidity, negligence, and flat out not caring about the well-being of citizens of this country.
When the Covid-19 epidemic is wrapped up (please, I hope, someday, and with most of humanity still around), Trump will have many things to answer for.
His insistence that it was just like the flu, and maybe a hoax, the appointments of incompetent people, not listening to experts, and his blatant disregard of public health advice. And the airports.
OMG. The haphazard response of "let's just shut down the border to people from Europe" resulted in a rush of Americans who needed/wanted to come home, no duh. Which resulted in... people coming from an area of the world that is now considered the hot spot in this epidemic packed in long lines -hours long- at airports all around the country, with just the admonition of self-isolating when they got home. Airports as Petri dishes.
In the meanwhile, my sister and BIL are in Egypt. They're trying to get a flight back directly from Cairo, rather than flying through Paris. I would have, honestly, gone on the trip had it been me, so I don't blame her for leaving, but damn, timing was awful.
