Birthday Cakes

Dh's birthday cake is getting to be problematic.

He always wants chocolate, which is fine.

The problem:

-- Linnea won't eat caramel or any fruit with chocolate cake.

-- None of us likes nuts, so nut brittles etc are out. Nutella is not but I did that last year for MIL's bday. Dh doesn't like coconut.

-- Perry and MIL won't eat anything with coffee.

What is left, I ask you, what is left?

For some reason I started watching Great British Baking Show and wow - some people are super creative when it comes to baking! I am not one of them. But would orange chocolate work for Linnea, if it's just orange flavoring and not actual fruit?

Orange? No.

The conversation would go something like this:

Linnea, still conversationally friendly, "What flavor is this?"
Mother, starting to quake, "Orange?!"
Linnea, again conversational, but very very cold "Are oranges a fruit?"
Mother, shaking, "Well, yes, but...."
Linnea: silent ice cold stare.
