Freaking out...

nwhikerSister just texted. I guess my mom is headed to the ER. She lives down in Louisiana with my brother.
I'm freaking out.
ETA. She's at the ER. They're giving her another round of breathing treatments. She went to her regular doc this AM, who said her lungs sounded clear, gave her a breathing treatment because her O2 was low, and sent them home. Bro and Sis both thing my mom's MD is an idiot, this is not the first time she's blown something off that ended my mom in the ER later that same day.
Anyhow, after the treatment she was going for an XRay and my brother thought she sounded confused. My sister, on the phone with her, agreed, and so he took my mom to the ER. She had been pretty clear earlier, and while she is getting worse on being confused, this was more than expected.
She's getting another breathing treatment now at the ER, and she has an O2 cannula.
ETA. Well, she's in a room. My sister is flying down tomorrow (sob! They were both supposed to be coming here tomorrow!). The hospital appears to be on the ball, they're doing respiratory treatments to try to break up a glob of mucous (she had a ct-scan), and they will evaluate her swallowing since she has pneumonia on the right side, which is associated with aspiration. Right now she is NPO and even sick my mother is a prodigious eater (as she's gotten older, she's gotten more boa-esque: one REALLY big meal a day, which isn't great, and she's also a sweet fan, something she never was younger. Weird). Anyhow, I'm sure she's pretty grumpy about that. She also has benign esophageal stricture which is also associated with aspiration, so they're checking on that.
She had some fever earlier, it came quickly and easily, and she's on abx.
When she got to the ER she was pretty nasty confused, as in wasn't sure of her birth year or the date, but with IV fluids on board, she knew dates, why she was there, what treatments they were doing, and was b*tching at the TV they should just subpoena the MF and impeach the bastard. Also pointing out, bro said, the subtle difference in what the anchor was saying and what was written on the chyron.
I hope this doesn't get more serious. I can fly out at any point, but I'm not needed right now, so I'll stay here and we'll see what is needed later.
